Human Remains Detection

Cold cases, Clandestine Grave location, and Crime Scene Forensic SearchES

Some of our GBK9SAR dog teams obtain additional training and certification under Utah P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training) to locate victims of crime. These enhanced skills allow us to assist law enforcement with our dogs in criminal investigations by locating clandestine graves, finding disarticulated remains, and identifying trace evidence of human remains, sometimes even years after a person has gone missing.

We train our dogs to exhibit a passive response to ensure that evidence remains as undisturbed as possible. We train these handlers in crime scene preservation and how to write accurate and effective reports to document our K-9 sniff results for the possibility of future legal testimony. Our handlers also receive training regarding legal issues they may encounter during a K-9 sniff as well as how to accurately articulate their findings during potential legal proceedings.
