Rekker

Rekker is the offspring of two working Search K9s. His training started at 5 weeks old in April of 2008. He is certified by Tri-State K9 to locate human remains on land and in water. He has deployed on missing persons and criminal cases with several confirmed finds. Rekker and his handler have also deployed several times to Europe with History Flight and contributed to the recovery of two WWII MIA pilots. Rekker's handler has fielded 5 Search & Rescue K9s.

Taylor

Breed: Golden Retriever

Handler: Tri-State K9 Evaluator, NASAR SARTECH II, Avalanche 1 / 2 / 3 certified, OEC, NSP

Taylor was rescued at 18 months of age in September 2012. She is from strong working lines and loves to hunt. Taylor has deployed on missing persons and criminal cases on land and water. Taylor is especially talented at water search and has contributed to locating drowning victims. Taylor's handler has trained retrievers for hunting and successfully campaigned them in AKC licensed field trials. He is an avid outdoors man and skis and whitewater rafts in the Intermountain West.

Oakley

Breed: German Shepherd

Handler: GBK9SAR Treasurer, former Non-Commissioned U.S. Army Officer, Operation Enduring Freedom veteran, Wilderness First Aid & CPR certified, K9 Wilderness Responder certified

Oakley first joined Great Basin K9 Search & Rescue in July of 2014. As a puppy she began foundational tracking training. Oakley is certified as mission ready by Tri-State K9 on Wilderness Air Scent and Land Human Remains. Oakley and her Handler were recognized by the Elko County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the recovery of a pilot who crashed and perished in the very rugged Ruby Mountains of Nevada.

Letti

Breed: Belgian Malinois
Status: Certified / Mission Ready

Handler: Former Non-Commissioned U.S. Air Force Officer, Operation Enduring Freedom veteran, Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran

Letti is a working line Belgian Malinois that started training for SAR at 11 months of age in March 2015. Letti is exceptionally agile, has strong work ethic, loves the search game, and covers ground like a gazelle. She is certified as mission ready by Tri-State K9 on Wilderness Air Scent and Land Human Remains.

Timber

Breed: Dutch Shepherd
Status: Certified / Mission Ready
Certifications: Wilderness Air Scent, Land Human Remains, Avalanche
Handler: Former U.S. Army Infantry, Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran, Ski Patrol / Avalanche certified

Timber began his training in the spring of 2015 at 8 weeks of age. As a puppy, he began foundational tracking training. Soon after he transitioned into Wilderness Air Scent and Land Human Remains. His handler is a certified arborist and wildland firefighter who has been with Great Basin K9 SAR since spring 2011. Timber’s handler was a ski patroller for eight seasons. Timber and his handler are a team that can skillfully tackle the most formidable and arduous terrain.

Huck

Breed: Weimaraner
Status: Certified / Mission Ready

Handler: First Aid & CPR certified

Huck started training for Search & Rescue at 5 months of age in May of 2015. He and his handler are certified as mission ready by Tri-State K9 on Wilderness Air Scent and Land Human Remains. Huck has exceptional hunting skills, covers ground like the best of upland bird dogs, and is very loyal to the mission. Huck's owner/handler lives, works, and plays in Park City.

Ruger

Breed: German Shepherd

Handler: GBK9SAR Vice President, Tri-State K9 Evaluator, NASAR SARTECH II, former GBK9SAR president

Ruger was selected from a long line of working German Shepherds. He started his SAR training at 7 weeks with a foundation in trailing and has now transitioned to wilderness air scent. He is very focused and serious about his work. Ruger's handler is a long time handler and evaluator of SAR K9s and has decades of Ski Patrol and SAR experience.

VIGGO

Viggo was imported to the U.S. in November of 2018 from a police K9 training center in Holland at the age of 14 months to become a member of GBK9SAR. He was selected for his balanced drives, sustained hunt, physical agility, and happy social personality. He has proven himself to be a valuable and productive K9 member of the team with a confirmed find to his credit shortly after his first certification. Viggo is his handler's 5th certified SAR K9.

Dante

Dante is a working line German Shepherd who started his SAR training with Great Basin K9 at six months of age. His handler and flanker are his owners and they are both operational members of Great Basin K9.

Tikaani

Breed: Belgian Tervuren

Handler: NASAR SARTECH II, Wilderness First Aid & CPR certified

Tikaani started his training with GBK9SAR at 8 months old. He is a happy dog with great energy and is honing his hunt drive and indication. His handler and flanker are his owners and they are both operational members of Great Basin K9.

Titus

Titus was selected from a litter of working line dogs specifically for Search & Rescue based on a series of aptitude tests performed when he was 7 weeks old. He was brought to Utah and started his training at 8 weeks of age with GBK9SAR. He is growing up to be a handsome, strong, and motivated boy. Titus is a half brother to K9 Envy and from the same kennel. His handler is an operational member of Great Basin K9.

Envy

Envy was selected from a litter of working line dogs specifically for Search & Rescue based on a series of aptitude tests performed when she was 7 weeks old. She was brought to Utah and started her training at 9 weeks of age with GBK9SAR. She is growing up to be a tenacious and fearless girl. She is a half sister to K9 Titus and from the same kennel. Her handler and flanker are her owners and they are both operational members of Great Basin K9.

Tiago

Tiago began training with Great Basin K9 Search & Rescue in May of 2019 and is focusing on Wilderness Air Scent. Tiago’s parents and lineage come from the old French and Belgian working lines. He was whelped near Boston and has litter-mates working as Police K9s in the Boston area. He has a foundation in obedience and agility but is quickly unleashing his natural hunt and work drives as he learns the SAR game.

Gunny

Handler: GBK9SAR Operations Officer, Tri-State K9 Evaluator, NASAR SARTECH II, retired U.S. Marine, Vietnam Veteran, GBK9SAR Past-President

Gunny is a Golden Retriever from Hunters Trace Kennels in Wyoming. He started training as an avalanche dog when he was 9 months old and that discipline will always be his favorite. He was the first dog to be admitted to the snow safety team at Powder Mountain. He participated in almost a hundred searches throughout the Intermountain West before his retirement in 2019. Gunny’s work contributed to several victim recoveries. He is a happy-go-lucky golden until his search harness went on and then he was all business.
